DESCRIPTIONDear JohnA piece of Africa with a large old country house nestling in a valley with magnificent views, surrounded by mountains, streams and huge ancient trees ,where anything planted would flourish!
Lake Bandula adjoining the world heritage site proved to meet this impossible, or so we thought, criteria.
Bandula the name originated from the old Amoxosa children s story of the great white ox Bandula and the lightning bird, both the charred remains of the tree caused by the lightning bird at the river and Bandula s stone kraal remain today.
The charming old farmhouse built in 1852 by Blok Barendborn in 1825 and famed for his skills as a hunter and tracker has a strong provencal feel to it with sash windows, wooden shutters. courtyards and lofty ceilings. The house has been meticulously restored, each comfortably large bedroom has it s sitting area and log fireplace and a huge beautiful oldbathroom.
The well is still there as is the Dutch oven, the old barn, with wooden doors big enough for a horse and hay cart to pass through and the stables. They too have been made ascomfortable as the main house and also furnished with comfortable English and French antiques and our own crafted furniture of iron, wood and rattan. The Witwatersberge literally begin in the front garden and through the valley you look onto the Magaliesberg mountains the oldest in the world.
Lake Bandula a romantic, beautiful wedding venue, steeped in history and wonderfully different.
Bring Marge with you this piece of Africa really is worth leaving home for!
