DESCRIPTION

Aloedale Lodge is set in a lovely established farm garden only a stone's throw from the R34 that runs from Empangeni to Melmoth and Vryheid.. The region has a vast diversity of natural and cultural resources that are all within easy access of the Lodge. The Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park, a world heritage site, and the Zululand Game Parks including the well known Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park are 90 minutes up the coast. The Anglo-Boer and Anglo-Zulu battlefields are en route to Johannesburg via Vryheid When Lynn and Sandy Dalrymple purchased the property in 1976 it was a subdivision of a sugar cane farm and there was an established garden around the homestead. Inrecent years they have been transforming it into a bird garden and gradually removing exotic vegetation. In the last ten years they have planted over 300 different species of indigenous trees, shrubs and ground covers. Aloes thrive in the area and make a spectacular show in June and July when theyflower on masse. There is a bird hide in the garden for viewing the sunbirds and resident weavers, starlings, thrushes, hoopoes and many other species. Visitors are invited to enjoy lovely walks around the garden through the aloe gardens, the water feature and the indigenous bush. Sporting facilities at the Empangeni country clubs including golf, squash and bowls are available for visitors
